We've taken the opposite approach on purpose: here's the complete list of what we use, what each ingredient does, and why it's in the kit.
Castile soap — primary cleaner
Made entirely from vegetable oils with no animal fats and no synthetic detergents, castile soap handles the bulk of general surface cleaning across a home. It's EWG Verified and fully biodegradable, meaning it breaks down completely rather than leaving a persistent residue behind, on surfaces or in wastewater.
White vinegar — natural disinfectant
A 5% acetic acid solution, standard white vinegar kills the large majority of common household bacteria and a significant share of common viruses, without chlorine and without the fumes that come with it. It's food-grade and safe around food-prep surfaces, kids, and pets once dry.
Baking soda — mild abrasive and deodorizer
Sodium bicarbonate is a naturally occurring mineral that provides gentle scrubbing power without scratching most surfaces, and neutralizes odors at the molecular level rather than masking them. It's food-grade and effectively zero-VOC.
Essential oils — antimicrobial properties and scent
We use tea tree, lavender, and eucalyptus specifically for their documented antimicrobial properties, not just for scent. The smell you notice after a visit is these oils themselves, not a synthetic fragrance added on top. All of our essential oils are 100% pure with no synthetic fragrance blended in, and we're happy to adjust concentration or omit them for households with young infants or cats, where extra caution is warranted.
Hydrogen peroxide — oxygen-based bleach alternative
Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen after use, making it an effective bleach alternative with zero toxic residue. It's EWG Verified and works well on a range of surfaces where chlorine bleach would otherwise be the default, without the fumes or corrosive risk to certain finishes.
Citric acid — descaler and brightener
Derived from fermented fruit, citric acid dissolves mineral deposits, soap scum, and hard water stains without the harsh chemical descalers found in many conventional bathroom cleaners. It's food-grade and fully biodegradable.
What you won't find in our kit
